Charred Fields Blossom Again
Last summer the Palestinians along the Gaza border sent balloons and kites attached with flammable material into Israel, setting 7,000 acres of mostly farmland ablaze. After extinguishing the flames, the charred land told the story of devastation. It seemed that the fields would never live again. But, as Spring breaks in Israel, the land near the Gaza border explodes with beauty and color!
The green grass and the reds of the flowers give a stark contrast to the blackened fields of a few months ago. As one lady said, “I know the power of nature, and its more powerful than hate.” One reporter noted, “Now those same fields are blossoming again, bringing back tourists and locals to enjoy.”
Using the beauty of the fields in His Sermon on the Mount Jesus said, “Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these” (Matthew 6:28,29). Today the colors look even more brilliant when compared to the charred black remains of the fires designed to instill fear and cause damage. God’s power, revealed in nature, truly is far greater than the hate that seeks to wreak havoc and instill fear. He gives beauty for ashes, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness, and the oil of joy for mourning (Isaiah 61:3).
