Holocaust Survivors Vaccinated in Austria and Slovakia
On International Holocaust Remembrance Day, hundreds of Holocaust survivors in Austria and Slovakia got their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine. “We owe this to them,” said Erika Jacobowitz, who organized the vaccine drive for the Jewish community of Vienna. Vaccinating Holocaust survivors is a tribute to their resilience 76 years after Soviet troops liberated Auschwitz in Nazi-occupied Poland.
Holocaust survivors have suffered so much, and many of these Holocaust survivors that are alive today were actually kids during the Holocaust and they were left to pick up the pieces for the rest of their lives. What Austria and Slovakia did is such a kind gesture, to let these elderly Jewish people know that they are not alone during this pandemic, that there are people who love and support them. Let me remind you, that is a very biblical thing to do.
