Heading Home!
The Israeli field hospital team has decided to return home after six weeks of operation. Located in western Ukraine in Mosytsk, about 30 west of Lviv, the team, made up of 100 members, including 80 medical staff, treated 6,000 patients “and delivered at least one baby.” The hospital cared for mostly civilians “who may have struggled to receive care with Ukraine’s resources stretched thin by the invasion.”
Opened by the joint efforts of the Foreign Ministry’s Agency for International Development Cooperation Aid and the Sheba Medical Center, the hospital “had 150 beds across its emergency, pediatric, obstetrics, and gynecology wards. The 21 million NIS ($6.5 million) cost of the hospital, with its 10 outdoor tents and also converted multiple classrooms into hospitalization wards, has been Israel’s flagship of Israel’s humanitarian aid.
In an earlier visit Israeli Health Minister Nitzan Horowitz expressed his gratitude, ‘for their holy work.’ “You provide medical care of the highest level, with great expertise and professionalism under really difficult conditions. Well done!”
The operation lived up to its name, Kohav Meir, (Shining Star) named for Golda Meir who was born in Ukraine.
