Poll Predicts Record Low Arab Turnout for Israel’s November Election
With Israel’s fifth election in just three years around the corner, a recent opinion poll published by the Kan public broadcaster found that the November 1st national election could have one of the lowest ever turnouts among Arab Israelis. “The survey — conducted by Yousef Makladeh’s Statnet firm, which specializes in Israel’s Arab minority, in conjunction with the Arabic-language public network Makan 33 — predicted that Arab turnout in the upcoming vote will be 39 percent, the lowest in the country’s history.” A low turnout could shrink the Arab representation in the Knesset, Israel’s parliament. Benjamin Netanyahu has the votes to win the Israeli election according to polling data. A weak Arab Israeli turnout could be the boost Netanyahu needs to form a coalition government by a slim majority to become prime minister once again.
