Israel at War: Week 44

What’s in a number? It depends on the source. Saturday, in a joint operation with Shin Bet, the IDF made a precision strike on a Al-Taabin compound in northern Gaza. Hamas figures came out with 90 civilian fatalities. Israel disputed the numbers of civilians killed in the strike.

With precise intelligence, the strike took out known terrorists using the compound to attack Israeli positions. Israel reported that 31 known terrorists were killed, a significant difference from the 90 civilians Hamas sources claim. Israel sources say that smaller, precise missiles were used to limit civilian casualties while taking out the terrorist operatives in the compound. What’s in a number? The difference between truth and deception.

In another story, Brigadier General Dan Goldfus said, “We were close. We were in his compound. We got to an underground compound. It was ‘hot.’” He said they found money, weapons strewn around, and his coffee was still hot. He was talking about coming that close to capturing Yahya Sinwar, the mastermind of October 7. Goldfus has been appointed the next head of the Northern Corps and Multi Domain Joint Maneuver Array, and will soon be promoted to the rank of major general.” Here’s hoping that next time Sinwar will be caught and brought to justice.
