A Curious Event
Two generals received approvals for promotions from Defense Minister Benny Gantz, one with a serious reprimand in his resume. Minister Gantz approved current Head of the Home Front Command Major-General Uri Gordin to his new position as chief of the Northern Command. The other appointee, Brigadier General Rafi Milo, currently heads the IDF Command and Staff College, received his appointment as Head of the Homefront Command. He also receives a promotion to Major General.
General Milo had taken some of his men inside the largest Hezbollah terror tunnel on Lebanon discovered in Operation Northern Shield, “in which the army uncovered six cross border attack tunnels.” What led to his reprimand was an unauthorized 2019 midnight excursion he led into the largest terror tunnel, that went ‘several kilometers’ into Lebanon. Neither did he notify anyone of his planned search. As a result, he was reprimanded by then IDF Chief of Staff Major General Aviv Kochavi and the Head of the Northern Command Major General Amir Baram.
His skill and ability as a leader has afforded him this new responsibility as head of the Homefront Command. From reprimand to Head of the Homefront Command, it’s a testimony of redemption for General Milo.
