“American Jewry is Under Attack”

On Saturday, December 28, a Hanukkah celebration in a rabbi’s home became the scene of an unprovoked attack. The accused assailant, Grafton E. Thomas, burst into the home threatening the guests with a machete, or what some called “a large sword,” leaving five people wounded, two remain hospitalized, with one in critical condition with a head wound.

This attack becomes the 13th anti-Semitic attack in New York in three weeks. Governor Cuomo has characterized the attack as domestic terrorism, and said that the hate crimes unit will investigate the incident.

The Consul General of Israel to New York, Dani Dayan said, “We are in a completely different mode now. In this Hanukkah, we suffered more anti-Semitic incidents than the candles we lit. Impossible to bear.”

Pray for the injured in this attack and for the community to confront the situation. Because the tension and fear it creates is, indeed, impossible to bear.
