Anticipating Russian Invasion, Israel Offers Jewish Ukrainians Food and Shelter
A Russian invasion of Ukraine is becoming more and more likely at this time. With this in mind, Israel is preparing to help the vulnerable Jewish Ukrainians who may seek to immigrate to the Jewish state. Israel’s Aliyah and Integration Ministry will offer Jewish immigrants or refugees from Ukraine housing and two meals a day in hotels and hostels across Israel. The Israeli government will pay for these provisions, offering for Ukrainian Jews to stay in hotels for between two weeks and one month, which may extend longer. The food offered in each meal must be kosher as well. Accommodations will include a shower or bath and toilet, closet space, cooling and heating, an electric kettle, linen (which will be changed weekly) and towels, likely free internet and TV, and baby cribs upon request, The Jerusalem Post reported.
Ukraine is in crisis mode. Russia’s strength, size, and political aspirations make an invasion of Ukraine almost inevitable. Israel is doing excellent work in this proactive move. Its leaders know there will be a few hundred thousand Jewish Ukrainians at risk, so the nation’s decision to pay for food and housing for immigrants and refugees with government money speaks volumes to its dedication to remaining a safe homeland for all Jewish people. While an invasion could still be prevented, we know there is danger lurking for Ukrainians no matter what happens next. Let’s pray for their safety as we appreciate the work Israel is doing for the Jewish population of Ukraine.
