From Horror to Hope
Today is Holocaust Remembrance Day. At Auschwitz, the site of the death camp and crematoria that murdered 3 million Jewish people, the March for the Living is held. This year 9,000 participants will attend to remember those who died there. In the past the Israeli Air Force has flown over the former murder center, a testimony to the fact that out of the diabolical plan and desire of Hitler’s plan to destroy the Jewish people, he failed. They survived.
This year as the March for the Living coincides with the 80th anniversary of the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising. Only a handful of survivors are still alive today.
In Israel the sirens will sound and for two minutes the entire nation pauses to remember those who perished.
Thankfully, out of the horror and ashes of the Holocaust, daily heroism in that period gave way to hope. We remember and “For them My Soul Weeps.”
In King David’s words, “Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning” (Psalm 30:5). Thank God, the people of Israel live. Please take the time today to remember and thank God that He prevented Hitler’s plan from succeeding.
