Hamas Hijacks Hostages’ Medicine

Hamas has prevented medicine from reaching its intended recipients, Israeli hostages in Gaza, instead keeping it for its organization. AP reports, “A senior Hamas official said that for every box provided for the hostages, 1,000 boxes would be sent in for Palestinians.”

Qatar intervened and announced a deal to ensure medicine reaches the hostages in exchange for Israel transferring more humanitarian aid to Gazan civilians. In return, Israel agreed to permit more aid trucks to enter the Gaza Strip.

Hamas has a penchant for moving the goalposts in negotiations, taking advantage of the fact that Israel values its citizens’ lives to the utmost. Israeli hostages in Gaza have faced such great suffering for months, and this report indicates their circumstances must only be worsening. To ensure the hostages survive and recover effectively, Israel must continue to work toward defeating Hamas as quickly as possible.
