Here We Go Again!
On Friday, February 5, the International Criminal Court voted 2-1 for the Hague to allow a criminal investigation “against Israel and the Hamas terrorist group for alleged war crimes in the Gaza Strip, ‘the West Bank’, and East Jerusalem.”
This allows the Chief Prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda, to open a war crimes probe into IDF actions. Something she has desired since 2019 when “she argued that there was a ‘reasonable basis’ to open a war crimes probe into Israeli military actions in the Gaza Strip and settlement activity in Judea and Samaria.”
Prime Minister Netanyahu responded forcefully stating, “The ICC has once again proven itself to be a political body not a judicial institution. The ICC ignores the real war crimes and instead pursues the State of Israel with a strong democratic government that sanctifies the rule of law and is not a member of the ICC.” Additionally, the IDF now has an ICC czar to coordinate all aspects of the legal battle. Major General Itai Veruv will head the legal team that includes an expert in international law.
At its core this action is founded in “politicization not to mention blatant anti-Semitism.” The psalmist summarized the spirit behind this action in Psalm 120:7, “I am for peace, but when I speak they are for war.” All the way to the International Criminal Court.
