Israel at War: Week 104

Hamas is playing a game with Israel and the world of Deal or No Deal. They have received from President Trump the 21 Point Peace Plan which Israel has agreed to unreservedly.

The requirement for Hamas was to accept the plan with no changes or exclusions. They complained that the plan seems to favor Israel. But why wouldn’t it? They attacked Israel in a horrific surprise attack on October 7, 2023 leaving 1,200 Israelis dead, 5,000 wounded, and 251 hostages. Yahya Sinwar who planned the attack knew how Israel would respond, yet he attacked anyway. Only 20 hostages remain alive. Though their treatment can hardly be called humane or human, and their existence can hardly be called living.

Hamas is playing a dangerous game of Deal or No Deal with Israel, with the United States, ultimately with the world. The clock is ticking steadily toward the final second when Hamas will either accept the peace proposal or reject it, and face the consequences of Israel’s onslaught to dismantle and destroy Hamas, and to release the hostages. Currently, Israel’s military has been placed on highest alert awaiting the outcome of Hamas’s decision.

Hamas’s history has been to reject any overture of peace with Israel. Even the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres called on Hamas “to immediately and unconditionally release the hostages.” Here’s hoping and praying that history changes with Hamas in this war. The question for Hamas remains: Is it a Deal or No Deal with Israel? Israel and the world await their answer.
