Israel at War: Week 112
It has been a very busy weekend in Israel with activity in the political arena focusing on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s request from President Herzog to pardon him. Critics of his request say that he cannot be pardoned without the admission of guilt. President Herzog vows, “I will only regard the good of the country in deliberating the Netanyahu pardon.” He is receiving continued pressure from President Trump to pardon the prime minister.
In the area of the military, it was an active time. The IDF eliminated four terrorists coming out of the tunnels and captured two others.
Two soldiers wounded in an operation in Syria were transported to Rambam Hospital in critical condition but are now reported as stable. One soldier has a bullet lodged in his heart and his surgery required a complex, delicate procedure. According to doctors, “the bullet remains in place for now.”
At the end of the month the military will receive the Iron Beam laser interceptor at the end of the month.
Finally, on the international scene Pope Leo XIV is in Lebanon to preside over a joint Christian-Muslim leaders gathering at the tomb of Lebanese saint, St. Charbel Makhlouf who lived from 1828-1898. He is revered both by Christians and Muslims. The Pope’s opinion regarding the Israel-Palestinian conflict: the only solution is the two state solution.
These events remind us to uphold Israel and its people in prayer. Now more than ever!
