Israel at War: Week 139

President Trump tries to maintain a balancing act between the U.S., Israel, and Iran as he pressured Israel not to retaliate against Iran’s recent ballistic missile attacks on Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu responded, “You do not call the shots over Israel, Mr. President. God does!” And in line with that statement Israel attacked Iranian targets.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has used biblical references before in the war with Hamas and Iran. Earlier he quoted Ecclesiastes 3 where Solomon said, “There is a time for war, and there is a time for peace. This is a time for war.”

I have referenced the prime minister’s statement as he declared war on Hamas, “This is a war of good against evil, of light against darkness, and light must win.” Yet, negotiators seem to make their proposals contrary to that aim.

President Trump is following the line of presidential predecessors seeking to control Israel in the name of peace. They didn’t achieve it, he will not achieve it either. Because his negotiating partner of Iran does not want peace, not with Israel nor with the United States. He must always remember his own determination to defeat Iran and the evil terrorist regime of the mullahs in control of the Iranian government and nation for 47 years. The words of Yasser Arafat continue to echo down to the terrorist organizations and their leaders today, “For us peace means the destruction of Israel.”

I believe President Trump needs to show his absolute loyalty and commitment to Israel’s aims in the conflict. His negotiating actions need to mirror President Ronald Reagan’s philosophy, “Trust but verify.” In verifying the words, aims, and proposals coming from Iran and its proxies there will be little truth or substance in their words. Both the survival of Israel and the West hang in the balance of the United States negotiations and statements. They carry great weight and destiny.
