Israel at War: Week 34
Proposals, Protestors, and Plans summarize the current situation in Israel. President Biden has said, “It’s time for this war to end.” Prime Minister Netanyahu remains firm that there will be no permanent cease fire until all of Israel’s aims are achieved, which are the total dismantling of Hamas militarily and politically, the release of all hostages, and the assurance Hamas can never again harm Israel. Concerning the proposals, Yahya Sinwar said that he is not interested in ending the war anytime soon, “since the longer the war drags on, the more Israel is turned into an international pariah and support for the Palestinians grows.”
Meanwhile, in New York and London, thousands took to the streets in support of releasing the hostages. In New York the marchers, under heavy security, chanted “Bring them Home!” In London thousands of marchers echoed the call for the release of the hostages. Orly Goldschmidt, spokesperson for the Israeli embassy in London said, “You can really see that London stands with Israel today. It’s been 240 days since our hostages were taken by Hamas terrorists into Gaza and we need to do everything to bring them back home now.” The marchers released yellow balloons symbolizing the hostages at the culmination of the march.
While in Israel protests called for the government to ‘release the hostages and remove Prime Minister Netanyahu from office.’
The IDF plans for neutralizing and destroying Hamas in Gaza continued with their push into Rafah. They discovered rocket launchers, anti-aircraft weapons and more. The Israeli Air Force struck 30 targets in Gaza. The military’s plan to defeat Hamas continues.
