Israel at War: Week 89
A Jewish Response to Rising Anti-Semitism
I saw two powerful posts today in an informal chat group I am a part of. Their views on the source of anti-Semitism is similar to mine, and I would like to share them here.
The first view comes from Berel Solomon who writes, “There’s something about Israel that makes people uncomfortable. And it’s not what they say it is. It is not a discomfort about what Israel does, but what Israel IS. A nation this small should not be this strong. Period.” Israel’s detractors do not know what to do with Israel’s achievements in science, technology, medicine, agriculture, military and more. Why are they so successful? Berel gives the key reason for Israel’s enemies Israel hatred. Israel doesn’t make sense. Unless you believe in something beyond the math. Because if this ancient, improbable nation is somehow still chosen, protected, and thriving, then maybe God isn’t a myth after all. Maybe He still is in the story. Maybe the Jews are not just a people…But rather a testimony. That’s what Israel’s enemies cannot stand, because once you admit that Israel’s survival isn’t just impressive. You realize you are witnessing the beginning of something eternal and divine!” That changes everything.
As Tamas Vajda wrote in his comment, giving a fitting conclusion to Berel’s post: “We’re not going anywhere. Not for your comfort, not for your approval. But for our children. For our future. For our eternity. AM YISRAEL CHAI! (The People of Israel LIVE)!
My response to both of these posts simply said, “I totally agree with Tamas and Berel regarding the foundation of anti-Semitism, it’s because Israel and the Jewish people stand as a testimony and witness that God exists and lives. Am Yisrael Chai, indeed, for the God of Israel Lives!
Amen and Amen!
