The Gaza Flotilla Enters High-Risk Zone; Claims Drone Activity

An international flotilla aiming to breach Israel’s naval blockade of Gaza reported increased drone activity early Wednesday (1st) as it approached the region.

“We now have entered the high-risk zone, the area where previous flotillas have been attacked and/or intercepted,” the Global Sumud Flotilla announced via Telegram.

The Flotilla, named Global Sumud, departed Barcelona last month with the stated goal of delivering aid for Gaza and challenging Israel’s security cordon.

Global Sumud resumed its voyage Sunday (9/28) after undergoing repairs in Greek waters.  Organizers announced that Greek vessels had joined the mission, bringing the total number of civilian boats to 47.  Organizers expect to reach the area as early as Yom Kippur (which begins Wednesday evening (1st) at sundown), the holiest day of the Jewish calendar.

Israel defense officials have activated a high-level response , deploying navy units and coordinating through a joint operations center involving the IDF, Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency), police, and the Foreign Ministry.  Hospitals along the coast have been instructed to prepare for potential medical treatment for activists. According to Ynet.

The flotilla includes activists from dozens of countries, among them approximately 40 Italians and Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg.

On Tuesday (9/30), Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called on the flotilla to immediately stop the mission.

In a statement quoted by Reuters, Meloni warned that insisting on a confrontation with Israel could upset the current “fragile balance” that could lead to peace based on the plan proposed on Monday (9/29) by U.S. President Donald Trump.

Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar urged the participants of the flotilla to heed Meloni’s call.

“The U.S., Israel, and leaders from the Middle East and around the world are trying to bring an end to the war.  The focus should be on de-escalating, not on orchestrating provocations, such as the Hamas-Sumud flotilla,” said Sa’ar.

Last week Israel’s Foreign Ministry warned the participants in the flotilla, which it referred to as the “Hamas Flotilla,” that Israel will not allow any breaches of the naval blockade on Gaza.

“This flotilla, organized by Hamas, is intended to serve Hamas.  Israel will not allow vessels to enter an active combat zone and will not allow the breach of a lawful naval blockade,” the statement clarified.

“If the flotilla participants’ genuine wish is to deliver humanitarian aid rather than serve Hamas, Israel calls on the vessels to dock at the Ashkelon Marina and unload the aid there, from where it will be transferred promptly in a coordinated manner to the Gaza Strip,” it added.

“Israel urges the participants not to break the law and to accept Israel’s proposal for a peaceful transfer of any aid they might have,” the statement concluded.

Also on Tuesday (9/30), two official Hamas documents were made public, revealing that the terrorist organization is directly involved in funding and carrying out the Sumud flotilla to Gaza.

The documents indicate a close connection between the flotilla leadership and Hamas, particularly with the PCPA – a body operating on behalf of Hamas in the international arena.

‘He Kept Running Toward Me, So I Fired:’ IDF Colonel Stops Jerusalem Terror Attack

An IDF colonel in the reserves shot and neutralized a Palestinian terrorist who rammed his car into two teenagers and then tried to stab them Tuesday (9/30), near Jerusalem, officials said.

The attack occurred at the Al-Khader intersection on Highway 60, known as the tunnel road, south of the capital.  A 15-year-boy was severely wounded with head and limb injuries and taken to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem.  A 16-year-old boy was moderately hurt and evacuated to Hadassah Ein Kerem Medical Center, medics said.

The terrorist, identified by Palestinians as Mahdi Dirieh, 33, from the nearby village of Beit Fajjar, rammed his car into three Israeli youths waiting at a roadside bus stop.  Police said one teen escaped unharmed.  The assailant then emerged from his vehicle with a knife before being shot by Col. (res.) Hezi Nehama, who happened to be passing through the intersection with his personal firearm.  Dirieh was severely wounded in the shooting.

“I heard a boom about 20 meters away,” Nehama  told Ynet.  “People shouted, ‘he has a knife.’ I yelled for him to stop, but he kept running toward me.  I fired at his legs, he kept advancing, so I aimed at his center mass.  Then he fell.”

Police commander Moshe Pinchi said the suspect confessed to carrying out the attack during an initial field interrogation.  Security forces blocked off entrances and exits from surrounding villages while combing the area.  The army said troops were conducting searches and sealing off nearby roads.

First responders described scenes of panic.  “When we arrived, there was chaos,” said Magen David Adom paramedic Moshe Benita.  “We saw the car with its windshield smashed and two teenagers lying injured nearby.  One was semi-conscious with serious injuries.  We gave lifesaving treatment and rushed him to the hospital.”

Nehama, who served more than 25 years in the IDF, previously commanded the Givati reconnaissance Unit, the Alexandroni and Menashe Brigades, and held senior positions in the Givati Brigades and the officers’ training school.

The Al-Khader junction lies near the tunnel checkpoint on the main southern approach to Jerusalem.  The attack came amid heightened tensions across the West Bank, where Israeli forces have been carrying out  near-daily raids since the Gaza war began.

Israel Commemorates October 7 At The UN

On Tuesday, (9/30), the Israel Mission to the UN, led by Ambassador Danny Danon, held an event to commemorate the October 7, 2023 massacre at the UN Headquarters in New York attended by over 700 guests, including dozens of UN Ambassadors from various countries, diplomats from around the world, US leaders and hostage families.

Speaking at the event, US Ambassador to the UN, Mike Waltz, said: “I have a 21-year-old daughter and she looks up to the toughness of Israeli women… The United States stands shoulder to shoulder with the people of Israel… our work is not done and we will continue to fight until all the hostages are home.”

Ambassador Danon said: “On October 7, not only was the cruelty of Hamas revealed to the world, but also the heroism of Israeli women.  In the face of terror and murder, they stood like lionesses: they fought, saved and protected.  Here, too, in the lions’ den at the UN, we carry their spirit with us.  The women of Israel have proven that they will not be broken or silenced, and our message is clear: our people cannot be subdued.”

He also stated: “Yesterday, President Trump presented a roadmap to peace, which was accepted by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.  While Hamas is considering this proposal, they should know that we will bring all the hostages home.  If they reject the plan, Israel will finish the job.  Either the easy way or the hard way.”

In addition, Nova survivor Noa Beer shared her testimony from the Nova Festival on October 7th, and Capt. (res.) Karnin Guez, commander of the all-female tank unit that fought off Hamas terrorists on October 7 shared her story of heroism that day.

Celebrated Israeli singer Dikla also performed at the event.

I Visited Gaza.  The Food Aid Surprised Me. – Ken Isaacs

I recently returned from Gaza, where I witnessed the humanitarian catastrophe that has resulted from Hamas’ October 7, 2023, attack on Israel.  The main provider of food assistance in Gaza today arguably is the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), an organization backed by the U.S. and Israel.  GHF has faced harsh criticism for its work in Gaza.  I arrived in Gaza a skeptic of GHF but left an advocate.  Simply put, the common portrayal of this organization radically distorts reality.

I observed GHF’s relief operations firsthand.  While no textbook exists for a war zone such as Gaza, where terrorist combatants hide among civilians, I saw GHF using unconventional means to successfully deliver food to civilians on a staggering scale under nearly impossible circumstances.  It wasn’t perfect, but it was good.

Many of GHF’s staff are former military personnel.  They travel in armored vehicles, maintain security protocols and are provided needed access by the Israel Defense Forces.  I see this as realistic.  Relative to most other aid distributions around the world, GHF’s job is especially dangerous, requiring tenacity and elaborate planning from people who know how to conduct themselves calmly in a volatile setting.  I watched GHF teams, along with their Palestinian staff, manage huge crowds with total professionalism.

There is no way to revert, as the UN has suggested, to the distribution systems used for humanitarian aid in Gaza before the Oct. 7 slaughter.  UNRWA is no longer allowed to operate in Gaza after Israel found that many of its staff were members of Hamas and/or participants in the Oct. 7 attack.  GHF is putting food into the hands of hungry people and has distributed more than 167 million meals to date.  The people of Gaza would be better served by the UN coordinating with GHF to expand the delivery of humanitarian assistance effectively.

Trump’s Gaza Plan Misses The Only Point That Matters – Andrew C. McCarthy  (National Review)

• There is no deal with sharia-supremist Islam.  Hamas, the Palestinian branch of the Muslim Brotherhood, is conducting a jihad to destroy Israel – not to reach a more favorable arrangement with Israel – based on sharia-supremacist principles, which are 14 centuries old and steeped in Jew-hatred that goes back to Muhammad’s wars of conquest.

• While Hamas has been hollowed out by Israel’s combat operations, the problem in the region is sharia-supremacism, not Hamas; if what is today called Hamas disappeared tomorrow, a new jihadist entity would rise quickly to take its place, and the objective would not change.

• The premise of the president’s plan is that Hamas will stop being Hamas, and that will end the jihadist threat.  What basis is there to believe that?  During the second intifada, when Hamas was firmly established, there were around 150 suicide attacks.  The jihadists who carried them out were celebrated by the Palestinian Authority.  Like the jihadists who carried out the October 7 atrocities, the suicide attackers were not looking for a better deal with Israel.  They were looking to eradicate Israel.

• The Proposal assumes that the culture and population that produced these people are now going to lay down their arms and commit to peaceful coexistence or, in the alternative, voluntarily leave the territory that their fundamentalist tenets – as mediated by the region’s most influential scholars – tell them is Allah’s land over which they are obliged to wage jihad until Israel is no more.

• What has happened in the last two years to make anyone think that’s a possibility?  We now have European nations and Canada claiming to recognize “Palestine” (its lack of borders or a real government notwithstanding).  Why would Hamas and its sharia-supremacist support network surrender now when they have reason to believe the barbaric October 7 attack, far from turning them into pariahs, has advanced their cause?

• There isn’t always an ideal solution available just because we’d like there to be one.  There is no deal with people who will be satisfied  with nothing less than one’s annihilation.  The fact that there may be many rational Palestinians who would be willing to live in peace does not mean they are anywhere closer to being able to force their will against the region’s dominant, entrenched sharia-supremacist adherents.

• Unless and until Israel’s mortal enemies (and ours) are conclusively defeated, any peace negotiations are just a strategic pause that allows the jihadists to regroup and rearm.
