US Envoy Cautions As Israel, Lebanon Resume Talks In Rome
US Ambassador to Lebanon Michel Issa expressed cautious optimism on Monday (3rd) ahead of renewed talks between Israeli and Lebanese representatives in Rome on Tuesday (4th), while cautioning that “a great deal of technical work remains” to ensure “civilian safety on the ground.”
“There is a meaningful difference between drafting an agreement on paper and implementing responsibility,” Issa said of the June 26 framework agreement between Jerusalem and Beirut, warning that “moving too quickly risks jeopardizing the very civilians this process is meant to protect.”
He added that both sides “must agree on a clear, workable process before proceeding.”
The Aug. 4-6 summit in the Italian capital—confirmed by a State Department official as well as Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter and Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani—follows months of intensifying military and diplomatic developments.
Hostilities erupted on March 2, 2026, when Iranian-backed Hezbollah resumed rocket and drone attacks from southern Lebanon, shattering a ceasefire in place since November 2024.
The Israel Defense Forces responded with a broad air campaign and expanded ground operations to secure the border.
In response to the renewed fighting, Lebanese President Joseph Aoun pledged to do “the impossible” to end cross-border conflict and moved to outlaw the Iranian proxy.
Diplomatic momentum built through initial US-brokered talks in Washington, culminating in a 14-point Trilateral Framework agreement reached on June 26 during a fifth round of negotiations.
The agreement calls for the disarmament of Hezbollah, while Jerusalem has maintained that a full troop withdrawal will occur only after the security threat is neutralized.
High level engagement continued on July 21, when Aoun met with US President Donald Trump at the White House.
Trump pledged support for Lebanon’s stabilization efforts and expressed hope that Beirut might eventually join the Abraham Accords.
Following a sixth round of talks in Rome on July 14-15, technical teams in the upcoming session will focus on expanding pilot zones, resolving border disputes and charting a path toward a comprehensive peace agreement.
“We are entering these discussions with significant momentum following the successful launch of the first pilot zone in Southern Lebanon and President Aoun’s productive meeting with President Trump,” the State department official said.
The diplomacy unfolds against a backdrop of continued tactical friction along the border. On Sunday (2nd), the Lebanese Armed Forces initially claimed five soldiers were injured in an “Israeli enemy attack” near Bint Jbeil.
After initial inquiries revealed no IDF activity in the area, a follow-up investigation determined the LAF vehicle had detonated a Hezbollah explosive device outside the Southern Lebanon Security Zone.
The LAF subsequently acknowledged the blast was caused by a “suspicious object” rather than an Israeli strike, noting the incident remains under investigation.
Board Of Peace Clarities: IDF Will Not Leave Yellow Line Until Hamas Fully Disarms
Gaza Board of Peace High Representative Nickolay Mladenov, together with the Board of Peace team, met on Monday (3rd) with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his team. According to the Board of Peace, the meeting was part of the process of decommissioning weapons in Gaza and enabling the transition to civilian governance, and “creating a safer future in the region” for both Israelis and Palestinian Arabs in Gaza.
The board noted that the meeting was constructive and detailed. Israel and the Board of Peace share a common understanding of the ultimate objectives.
“Thr goal is clear and is not in question: the complete decommissioning of weapons in the Strip and the transition away from rule by the gun to civilian governance. Reaching it will be a process. And that process will be set out in the next phase of the work,” the Board of Peace wrote in a statement
The board clarified: “Contrary to inaccurate reports, we note that the withdrawal of the IDF beyond the Yellow Line will take place only once the decommissioning is complete, as Hamas committed to the mediators. This applies to light weapons, heavy weapons, and the tunnels alike.”
It noted that implementation will be overseen by the International Stabilization Force and by the Implementation Verification Committee, on which both the United States and the Board of Peace sit.
The board further stated that continued progress towards implementation in full, depends on each side fulfilling its obligations under the agreed framework.

According to a new report released by the Israel Export Institute, the organization responsible for promoting and supporting Israeli exporters, Israeli companies continued to expand their global presence in 2025 despite a challenging security environment and growing international efforts to delegitimize the country.
The report pointed to the continued strength and resilience of Israel’s business sector, with companies expanding their global reach, driving innovation, and maintaining their competitiveness in international markets despite ongoing challenges.
“During a year in which Israel faced a difficult war, alongside unprecedented hostility toward the country on the international stage, Israeli companies once again proved that innovation, creativity, and Israeli quality are stronger than any challenge,” Avi Balashnikov, chairman of the Israel Export Institute, said in a statement.
“Despite repeated attempts to undermine Israel’s economy, the world continues to seek the technology, expertise, and solutions that come from Israel. These figures are clear evidence that Israeli excellence continues to prevail,” he continued.
For the first time, the report found that services exports—including software, research and development, and other technology-driven industries – surpassed $90 billion, driven largely by Israel’s high-tech sector, strengthening the country’s position as one of the world’s leading innovation centers.
Even amid ongoing security challenges and political pressure, Israeli exports continued to benefit from strong international demand, with the record figures underscoring the global reliance on Israeli technology, expertise, and business solutions.
Looking ahead, Israel’s export sector is expected to pursue new growth opportunities by expanding into emerging markets across Asia, Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe, while harnessing advances in artificial intelligence to strengthen its global competitiveness.
“Israel holds a significant competitive advantage in AI, thanks to its exceptional human capital, innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.”Nili Shalev, CEO of the Israel Export Institute, said in a statement.
“The numbers speak for themselves: Israeli exports continue to grow stronger because they are driven by outstanding companies and extraordinary people.”
Even as Israeli markets continue to expand globally, the Israeli Export Institute warned that the country must prepare for a more uncertain trade environment, shaped by shifting supply chains, evolving global commerce, and economic changes affecting international markets.
Statue Of Yoni Netanyahu Unveiled At Uganda’s Entebbe Airport, 50 Years After Rescue
A statue of Yonatan Netanyahu, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s older brother, has been unveiled at the old Entebbe Airport terminal where he was killed leading an elite IDF force in the rescue of hostages in 1976.
“It is a great honor and privilege to join you at this historic site as we unveil this monument to Lieutenant Colonel Yonatan “Yoni” Netanyahu, the courageous commander of the Israeli rescue force whose leadership and ultimate sacrifice during the Entebbe raid of July 4, 1976, has become an enduring symbol of courage, duty and selfless service,” said Uganda’s military chief Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba at the ceremony, the Kampala Post reported Saturday (1st).
Kainerugaba also named those killed throughout the hostage taking, including Jean-Jacques Maimoni, Pasco Cohen, Ida Brochovitch, and Dora Bloch.
“As we gather here, we also respectfully remember the innocent hostages who lost their lives during those tragic events,” he said. “Their memory remains an important part of this solemn history.”
“The friendship between Uganda and Israel extends well beyond the events of 1976. Our two countries have enjoyed good relations for a long time now, founded on mutual respect and practical cooperation,” he added.
The unveiling came after Kainerugaba earlier this year announced plans to place a statue of Yoni Netanyahu “at the exact spot” where he was killed.
The hijacking began when an Air France flight from Tel Aviv to Paris carrying 246 passengers, was seized after a stop in Athens by terrorists from the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine and German Revolutionary cells. The plane was diverted to Uganda, where the despotic, notoriously unhinged dictator Idi Amin gave the hijackers safe haven as the hijackers demanded $5 million and the release of 53 pro-Palestinian terrorists.
After landing, the hijackers proceeded to separate Israeli and Jewish passengers from most of the others, who were released over two days.
A week after the hijacking, four Israeli C-130 Hercules transport aircraft landed at the airport after flying thousands of miles to Entebbe and within hours, the now-legendary rescue operation was complete. Ultimately, four of the hostages were killed along with Netanyahu, the only Israeli military fatality of the mission.
NYPD Data: Anti-Jewish Incidents Account For Nearly 70% Of NYC July Hate Crimes
Jewish residents, who make up roughly one-tenth of New York City’s population, bore the brunt of nearly 70% of all confirmed bias offenses across the five boroughs last month, based on newly published municipal metrics by JNS.
Official figures indicate a 53.3% rise in validated anti-Jewish incidents compared to the corresponding frame last year.
According to NYPD records, law enforcement logged 33 “confirmed” hate crimes during July, with 23 targeting Jewish individuals. During July 2025, officials verified 15 anti-Jewish offenses. Meanwhile, Muslim residents were targeted in five verified crimes last month (15%), an increase from two recorded incidents during the same month last year.
Reporting practices underwent modifications earlier this year. Following a 182% surge in anti -Jewish incidents during January- coinciding with Mamdani’s inaugural month as mayor-city officials temporarily shifted to publishing solely verified occurrences rather than initial complaints. By March, the administration instituted dual tracking, disclosing “confirmed” and “reported” metrics independently.
For July, 29 out of 50 total unverified bias complaints (58%) involved anti-Jewish allegations, whereas six complaints (12%) involved anti-Muslim claims.
Year to date tallies show 360 verified bias crimes across the city in 2026, marking a 9.4% climb from the 329 cases documented through the same period in 2025. Of those 360 confirmed cases: 205 cases were anti-Jewish incidents (56.9% of total; an 8.5% increase from 189 cases in 2025),while 25 cases were anti-Muslim incidents (7.2% of total; a 62.5% increase from 16 cases in 2025).
Addressing the statistics, City Council Speaker Julie Menin, who is the first Jewish lawmaker to hold the leadership post, voiced serious apprehension regarding the trajectory.
Menin noted that the surge prompted her immediate policy-focus upon taking office, stating that her “very first initiative was a five-point plan to combat antisemitism,” and adding, “I will not waver in the fight to protect our communities from hatred.”

A week later, also in a Friday sermon, Michigan Shiite scholar Hassan Qazwini, founder of the Islamic Institute of America in Dearborn Heights, praised Iran’s slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei as “the leader of the Islamic Revolution… who was martyred and whose blood was spilled while defending his land, his honor, and that of the Islamic nation.”
