Rockets and Reprisals

Over the past five days 1,000 rockets were launched by Islamic Jihad into Israel, including rockets toward Jerusalem, as Hamas assisted by sheltering the terrorists. The IDF responded by targeting “dozens of the terror group’s sites and locations over the course of this round of conflict.”

The military response eliminated 18 Islamic Jihad terrorists, along with ten Palestinian civilians. The rocket attacks left two Israelis dead and 69 injured.

While both the Arabic word ‘salaam’ and the Hebrew word ‘shalom’ mean peace, there has been little peace. Egypt has brokered a cease fire between the two groups, which has tenuously held.

In Psalm 120 the psalmist offers the laments of the modern Israeli; “My soul has too long dwelt with one who hates peace. I am for peace, but when I speak they are for war” (Psalm 120:6-7). Such is the situation for Israel dealing with terrorist groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and their primary supplier Iran.
