The Answer is No!
President Joe Biden nominated a Jewish candidate for the Assistant Secretary of State for Human Rights, Sarah Margon. However, her nomination has been blocked by the highest ranking Republican on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Senator James Risch from Idaho, because of “her comments on Israel.”
His strong, prolonged refusal prompted Sarah Margon to withdraw her name. She said, “At present I don’t see a way forward for confirmation, and after one and a half years, it’s time to move on.”
While probably having enough votes to confirm, the Senate tradition of not proceeding to vote without the consent of the highest ranking Republican and Democrat, Chairman “Menendez would not break with that tradition.”
