The Biggest One Yet!

On Sunday, December 17, the IDF uncovered the largest terror tunnel yet. The tunnel network under Gaza has served as a launching point for Hamas into Israel, both with rockets and terrorists going into Israel. The tunnels also reach the Egyptian border as well as Israel. Hamas has spent about 1 billion dollars in developing the subterranean network.

The massive tunnel was large enough to drive a car into, and the IDF said “its width indicates that it was intended for vehicle-borne raids into  neighboring Gaza communities.” The tunnel reached within a quarter mile of the Erez Crossing, which until October 7 served as the means of allowing Palestinians into Israel for work and medical care.

The IDF’s Combat Engineering Corps elite Yahalom unit and the Northern Gaza Brigade have used “advanced intelligence and technological means to uncover the  ‘strategic tunnel network, scan it, and clear it.”

Over the past few weeks, “during the ongoing fighting in Gaza, Hamas has carried out several attacks from the tunnel network. Several days ago several Hamas gunmen were killed inside the tunnel.”

Concerning the tunnel, IDF Spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari said, “This was no ordinary tunnel, it is a city. A terrorist city underground that Hamas dug and built instead of investing in the residents of Gaza. We will continue to uncover the terrorist cities of Hamas underground. Soon we will uncover more cities that we will take care of, we will kill terrorists inside them and destroy them.” He added, “The IDF is aware of at least three similar sized tunnels in Gaza.”

Israel knew the tunnels were going to present a formidable challenge to the IDF. Yet, it seems the military is effectively handling that challenge. As always, continue praying for the peace of Jerusalem.
