The Masking of Truth

“Hamas is winning online. The globally designated terror group has mastered the manipulation of the press, convincing the world to ignore its bloody history and its violent present.”

I had a glimpse of this fact recently when an article stated that it will take the Palestinians years to rebuild from the devastation of the Israeli response to the rocket attacks. To be exact, the 4,368 rockets launched at Israel, at one point at the rate of about 175 rockets per hour.

That the Palestinians manipulate the media has a corollary truth, the media allow themselves to be manipulated. For example, Yasser Arafat in an interview with Mike Wallace said, “I want to live in peace with the Israelis, side by side.” But when speaking to Arab audiences, he cried out for “Jihad and Jihad and Jihad!”, against Israel.

The Palestinians are following in the footsteps of Arafat in controlling the media narrative. As Nitsana Darshan-Leitner explains, “Hamas controlled the language used to discuss the conflict. Its supporters inserted terms ‘disproportionate use of force,’ ‘occupation’, and ‘apartheid’, into every tweet, post, and appearance on CNN, the BBC, and MSNBC.”

The Palestinians know the art of manipulating a narrative: make the aggressor look like the attacked. Make the the abuser look like the victim. The global media willingly gives the public a false narrative on Israel and the public gladly believes it. Sadly, the truth becomes the victim.
