The Status Quo
On Friday, the House of Representatives passed a resolution supporting the Two State Solution. House Majority Leader, Rep. Steny Hoyer, said of the non-binding resolution, “It is a restatement of America’s policy supporting the two-state solution.”
Along with following past American policy, it contradicts and opposes President Trump’s support for Israeli influence in Judea and Samaria, “the reversal of U.S. policy regarding the legality of Israeli settlements in the West Bank.”
One of Israel’s harshest critics in the House, freshman Representative Rashida Tlaib, criticized and opposed the resolution. “This resolution not only endorses an unrealistic and unattainable solution, one that Israel has made impossible, but also one that legitimizes inequality, ethnic discrimination, and inhumane conditions.”
Meanwhile, Israel continues to experience rocket attacks, foiled terrorist attacks, and attempted stabbings from those with whom Congressional leaders want Israel to make peace. The Two-State Solution will not lead to peace, rather it will lead to more unrest, more conflict, and more death. As the psalmist lamented, “I am for peace, but when I speak they are for war” (Psalm 120:7).
