The Winner is..BIBI!

In a convincing victory, Likud leader Benjamin Netanyahu won the Israeli election last week. Now begins the challenge of forming the government.

One challenge for him is those who desire or expect ministerial positions in the new government. For example, far right Religious Zionism party leader MK Bezelal Smotrich hopes for a ministerial position, possibly Defense Minister. However, at a speech remembering Yitzhak Rabin’s assassination, he accused Shin Bet of having a part in his murder. He said, “Those who failed in protecting prime minister Yitzhak Rabin, was the security services which not only failed to protect him, but also used irresponsible manipulations, which haven’t been fully exposed, to this day, to encourage the murderer (Yigal Amir) to carry out his plan.”

Former IDF commander Gadi Eisenkot and member of the opposition party National Unity, called Smotrich’s words “a false and deplorable accusation.”

Another voice appealing for consideration urges a possible change in the Haredi (ultra-Orthodox) community, that of women working while their husbands study Torah. Rivka Ravitz notes in her featured post, “Thus, the women who devote many hours and considerable effort in the labor market are prevented from entering the positions that would reward them with a more sizable salary. The government policy to encourage Haredi employment simply does not focus on the women. Perhaps it’s time for that to change.”

“To the victor goes the spoils,” and the expectations, demands, and responsibilities. Such is the prospect for Bibi and Likud in the coming days. They will need much prayer while seeking to form the next government.
