US Speaker in Israel

In Israel heading a joint delegation. United States Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy met with both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and President Isaac Herzog. He will also address a special session of the Knesset.

He gave reassuring words as he affirmed in a statement, “There is no greater ally to America than Israel. The world is better when Israel and America are tighter.” In a separate meeting with President Herzog, Speaker McCarthy said the purpose of the bi-partisan mission was “to underscore that there is no greater bond than our relationship.”

Prime Minister Netanyahu hailed the overwhelming vote for the resolution supporting the bi-lateral relationship and the support for the Abraham Accords, with a 400-19 vote. The overwhelming vote demonstrates, according to Netanyahu, “the strength of the alliance and the strength of that support.”

With Speaker McCarthy’s trip, he is set to become only the second US Speaker to address the Israeli parliament.

In a time of turmoil and tension, the affirming words from both Israeli and US leaders bring relief and hope, indeed.
