When Justice Is Called Hatred

The nonprofit organization Proclaiming Justice to the Nations (PJTN) has been placed alongside the KKK on the Southern Poverty Law Center as a hate group. PJTN, a Christian Zionist organization that defends Israel and fights against anti-Semitism much like The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry, was subsequently removed from the Amazon Smile program, “which enables Amazon customers to donate a percentage of their purchase to their favorite charity,” according to breakingisraelnews.com. The company depends on donations, including a large percentage from Amazon Smile, to operate and will likely lose a significant amount of money as a result of the move. PJTN President Laurie Cardoza-Moore said she has “learned that this political witch hunt against those that don’t share SPLC’s extremist liberal views has been adopted as a religious doctrine by Amazon.” The organization’s videos and Focus on Israel program oppose the BDS movement and teach Christians about the need to support Israel.

How ironic is it to see an organization called “Proclaiming Justice to the Nations” declared a hate group? It’s embarrassing to see justice equated with hatred, another sign of a society that continues to promote tolerance over truth—with the exception to tolerance, of course, being intolerance of Christianity in the name of tolerance. Confusing? I think so, too. This is an example of Christianity being painted as a heavy-handed movement that preys on anyone and everyone, when in reality Paul teaches in Ephesians 4:15 we should be “speaking the truth in love,” and John teaches in 1 John 3:18 we should “not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth.” Scripture clearly links love and truth as inseparable, yet this poses a problem to modern society. Love has been redefined as “acceptance;” and to speak the truth in love, if it aims to steer a person away from sinful behavior, is considered intolerant, unloving, and, therefore, hateful. It hurts to see PJTN scapegoated for standing for truth. May God bless their stand for truth and love at the cost of the world’s acceptance.
