As I write this column, I’m looking at two miniature Israeli flags on the windowsill of my office. When the degenerate empire of Nazi Germany surrendered on May 8, 1945—75 years ago—not many people believed those flags would someday exist.
In 1939, 9.5 million Jews (57 percent of the world Jewish population) lived in Europe. By 1945, only 3.8 million broken, destitute, displaced souls remained. Where would these people go? What would they do? How would they survive? They had nothing, including no idea who among their relatives was dead and who was alive.
Some managed to get to British Mandate Palestine despite the fact the British had severely restricted Jewish immigration and opened the floodgates to illegal Arab immigration. When the British finally left on May 15, 1948, they gave their weapons to the Arab Palestinians. The Jewish Palestinians had almost nothing—and they knew a major war loomed on the horizon to keep alive their new State of Israel, birthed less than 24 hours earlier. Could Israel survive?
The fact that Israel remained standing is a miracle of such immense proportion that it alone proves there is a God in heaven.
Now, as Israel and the Jewish people face Iranian aggression and rising anti-Semitism, many are again asking, “Can Israel survive?” That’s the question we tackle in this issue of Israel My Glory. We’ll take you from biblical times to the present and then to the future.
The good news is God has a plan. It’s unchangeable and unstoppable and will come to fruition His way and in His time. As He says in Isaiah, “I work, and who will reverse it?” (43:13). My miniature flags represent much more than Israel’s ensigns. They represent the faithfulness of God. Enjoy the magazine!
