The end-times are in vogue today—though, to be fair, they’ve been perpetually popular throughout history.
People believe a myriad of sensational claims about what is yet to come. Hollywood poses its science-fictional, apocalyptic theories in big-budget productions, concocting an elixir of equal parts intrigue and terror that its consumers eagerly swallow. Meanwhile, charismatic cult leaders have impassioned their followers with predictions of last-days extinction while presenting themselves as savior figures (like Jim Jones and the Peoples Temple in the 1970s).
When the Iran War erupted in February, end-of-the-world mania again shifted into overdrive. For many, the presumed nuclear capabilities of Iran, Israel, and the United States brought to mind Jesus’ eschatological declaration, “You will hear of wars and rumors of wars” (Mt. 24:6).
Humanity already has suffered global conflicts and reckoned with the prospect of annihilation. In 1947, shortly after World War II, the Doomsday Clock was developed as a symbolic calculation of when man would cause a global catastrophe. Since its creation, fears of advanced nuclear warfare and ecological collapse have prompted its stewards to move its hands closer and closer to midnight to signal impending destruction. As the clock ticks down, many people try to fix the world and save it from obliteration, while others embrace a sense of fatalism.
People want to know what their future holds, and few feel assurance and certainty with what they believe. But what did Jesus say is yet to come?
The truth is more fascinating than anything man dreams up. Earthquakes, famine, and war will cause worldwide disaster. A satanic villain will assert himself against the Lord God, blaspheming His name and defiling a rebuilt Jewish Temple. The sun and moon will turn dark, and the stars will fall from the heavens.
But in this most desperate hour, God will draw His beloved Israel back to Himself. The King will come to rescue His repentant people, and God will carry out His perfect plan.

The end-times sound frightening to many; but what a comfort we have, knowing we can find the truth about the last days from the words of Jesus Himself. And so, we share Scripture’s final cry of hope: “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Rev. 22:20).
