Joel of Jerusalem
WHO IS THE MESSIAH?

Just a few days ago I was waiting for transportation into Jerusalem. After two hours of waiting, a car with two elderly women and an elderly gentleman stopped and offered me a ride. As I got into the car, they replied, “We came like a Messiah for you.”

Yes, I waited a long time and greatly appreciated their arrival, but I replied, “You came and saved me from the long waiting, but THE MESSIAH didn’t come today to me with your car. He came into my heart 22 years ago.

“What are you talking about?” one of the women asked. When I asked her, “Who is the Messiah?” she said, “He is the One whom the Jews are waiting for, like you and the car.”

“But WHO is He?” I insisted. I asked her if she ever heard of Messiah Ben David, about whom Jews sing every Saturday evening. God sent Him to die for our sin in order that we could have forgiveness.

“Now I realize that you are speaking about Christ. Well, we don’t believe on Him because we are Jews.”

“But I am a Jew also, and I believe on Him,” I replied.

The woman seemed confused, for she wasn’t sure whether she was talking to a Jew or a Christian. “How can you be both Jewish and Christian?” she asked.

I told her how God opened my eyes to the truth of His Word, and how Jesus could be found in all of the Bible. I showed her many passages about what He did for us. I told her of God’s love for all men and that each person has a choice to receive forgiveness through His blood. “It is now your choice,” I said to her.

“You are a missionary!”

“Yes, every believer is a missionary, even those Jews in Mea-Sharim are missionaries, but of a different kind because they are learning only the written Talmud, not the Bible. There is a big difference. They are against the Lord. They need their eyes opened as mine were.”

The Bible is God's Word. Every single part of it is inspired, authoritative, and important. But it's fair to admit that not every verse is equally clear.
