60 Seconds With The General Secretary Jun/Jul 1974

Dear Heir of living Springs,

Thirsty!!!

That’s the simple, universal, irrefutable dilemma of the human race.  Quenching of that thirst is at the very core of existence.

Learned men have disagreed. Some have championed such things as sex, food, clothing, shelter and the need to be loved as life’s motivating force. But the Bible is very specific—man has a thirst problem.

At a well Jesus told the Samaritan woman,
“Everyone that drinketh of this water shall thirst again: but whosoever
drinketh of the wafer that I shall give him shall never thirst;
but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of
water springing up unto eternal life” John 4:13, 14.
Solomon drank deeply from the world’s well. Later he wrote,
“Vanity of vanities, all is vanity” Ecclesiastes 1:2.

The world exhausted itself on the King. Education, wealthy power—wine,
women and song, all were his.

Solomon’s Thirst Persisted

Augustine, the great 4th Century theologian, drank from the second well. His concise prayerful testimony,
“O God thou hast created man for thyself and man is restless until he repose in thee.”

Nothing has really changed. King Solomon lived 3,000 years ago, but mankind is still drinking from the same broken cisterns of education, wealth, power—wine, women, and song. Today,  drugs, the occult and the man in the grey flannel suit (self morality) can be added to the list.

How timeless the words of the psalmist,
“As cold waters to a thirsty soul, so is good news from a far country” Proverbs 25:25
It was from a far country that God sent to earth the good news of the Gospel. It, alone, can eternally quench man’s perpetual thirst.

I want you to know that on four continents and eight countries, our staff is pouring out the water of life. Many regrettably allow the water to disappear into the crevices of this world, but some, Jews and Gentiles alike, are drinking, deeply, to be eternally satisfied. Thanks . . . .

Thanks so very much for sustaining this thirst quenching ministry.

Warmly yours in Jesus,
Fount of all blessing,
Marvin J. Rosenfhal

The Bible is God's Word. Every single part of it is inspired, authoritative, and important. But it's fair to admit that not every verse is equally clear.
