A Bomb Shelter in the Time of Storm

Any second a missile can fall on my children’s preschool, and they don’t have a bomb shelter. Can you understand what it does to a mother’s heart to know that, if something were to happen, we would have no control over our kids’ safety? I am asking, please—I am begging—who can help us bring a shelter? We have already prepared the site. I will be very grateful. Thank you very much.

This mother’s call for help reached The Friends of Israel’s (FOI’s) team in the United Kingdom (UK), led by Trevor and Maggie Stewart-Sweet. The community of Safed, Israel, in northern Galilee was desperate for protection for its children’s school when Hezbollah targeted the area during the brutal beginning of the Iran War. The call went out through a London-based Jewish organization with which Trevor has built a relationship over the years. It was our joy to answer the call and bless the people of Safed.

FOI UK and the many friends of Israel in England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland moved quickly to provide a missile shelter for Safed. Within days, the shelter was installed on the town’s school grounds. Our team furnished it with air conditioning and academic supplies so school could continue when the children huddled in the shelter for extended periods.

This is one of three bomb shelters that FOI UK has gifted to communities in Israel. Each opportunity to meet needs like this shows our support to the Jewish communities of London and the UK. The responses from our Jewish friends demonstrate how valuable this ministry is:

“Your gift is a reminder that we are not alone,” said one mother.

“What you are doing for our community helps us forget the harsh reality that we face every day, even just for a short time,” said one administrator.

“You haven’t just donated equipment; you have created a sanctuary,” exclaimed another Jewish friend.

Trevor and our UK ministry team are caring for the Messiah’s Jewish brethren (Mt. 25:40) with Christian love and support, showing them that they are not alone. We received the gospel message through the Jewish people, so it is our duty to minister to the Jewish people in practical ways (Rom. 15:27).

FOI UK is forming deep, meaningful relationships with Jewish people in both London and Israel. “There is nothing that touches the heart more than the cry of a mother pleading for the safety of her children,” Trevor explained. “How can Christians not seek to help?”

Recently, Trevor and Maggie traveled to Israel to visit Safed and see the bomb shelter they helped provide. The mayor invited Trevor to pray over the shelter and dedicate it by affixing a mezuzah (a parchment scroll containing Scripture) on the doorpost. Israeli parents shared their overflowing relief and gratitude with Trevor and Maggie.

And so, the relationship continues to grow and show Jewish people God’s love for them.

Vision Mexico 2026

Something exciting is happening in Mexico. As the Jewish community continues to grow and develop throughout the country, The Friends of Israel has established a new ministry initiative: Vision Mexico 2026.

For decades, FOI has taught biblical truth about Israel, combated antisemitism, strengthened the church, and shared the love of the Messiah with Jewish people in many areas of the world. Our ministry in Argentina has long been fruitful, but we have never had a pathway to serving elsewhere in Latin America. Now, we believe the Lord is opening a new door to carry FOI’s mission into Mexico, allowing us to share our training, resources, and outreach with more of the Spanish-speaking world.

Through FOI programs like Bootcamp and Bridges, we are helping Christians understand the Hebrew roots of their faith, the biblical significance of Israel, and the practical methods through which they can build sincere relationships with Jewish friends and neighbors. These programs have equipped believers across the United States and Canada for ministry, and now they are beginning to reach Spanish-speaking audiences on a far broader level than ever before.

A busy street in Mexico.
A busy street in Mexico.

One of our most encouraging steps forward has been the recent Spanish translation of 10 Reasons Why Christians Support Israel. This informative tract explains clearly, biblically, and practically why standing with Israel and the Jewish people matters greatly today. Publishing the resource in Spanish helps us serve churches, pastors, students, and Christian leaders throughout Mexico and beyond.

In addition, FOI recently completed a Spanish version of FOI Bootcamp, giving Spanish-speaking Christians access to foundational Jewish ministry training in their own language. This thrilling development means we are no longer simply talking about reaching the Spanish-speaking world on a large scale someday. By God’s grace, we are already taking the first steps.

But Vision Mexico 2026 is about more than resources. It’s about people. Our current goal is to plant a volunteer in Mexico by the end of the year who can represent FOI, build relationships, connect with churches, serve the Jewish community, and create a foundation for future growth. Looking ahead, our prayerful vision is to see a representative ministering in Mexico, carrying forward FOI’s mission in a meaningful and long-term way.

The need for biblical clarity about Israel and loving outreach to the Jewish people around the world is imperative, and Mexico represents a strategic bridge for us to share these gifts with the Spanish-speaking world. We are asking God to open doors, raise up workers, connect us with faithful churches and leaders, and help FOI expand its ministry into Mexico.

The opportunity is before us. The resources are being translated. The training has begun. The vision is clear. Now is the time to bring The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry to Mexico.
