The Visions and Prophecies of Zechariah

Book Review

by David Baron, 555 pages, published by Kregel Reprint Library price $6.95.

This is no doubt one of the most outstanding and clear expositions of the book of Zechariah, the post-exilic prophet of hope and glory.

Luther considered Zechariah the very essence of prophecy. Next to Isaiah, his is the most important book of Messianic prophecy.

Although a man of profound scholarship, David Baron wrote his “Notes” on Zechariah over a period of eleven years (1907-1918) in such a way that the average reader of the Word might understand and be blessed by these prophecies.

David Baron was born in Russia in 1855 in a Rabbinical family. From his early youth he studied the Scriptures with a desperate desire to find the truth about salvation and the Messiah of Israel. Eventually this led him to faith in Jesus as the True Shepherd and Messiah of Israel.

In London, England, he became the co-founder and director of The Hebrew Christian Testimony to Israel, an office to which he brought distinction and benediction until his death in 1926.

He first published his exposition of Zechariah in the organization’s magazine “The Scattered Nation.”

This book has been reprinted five times, and is considered a classic of Biblical expository writing.

In addition to his many and arduous responsibilities as a teacher and preacher, David Baron was also a prolific writer who left a great and noble literary heritage. Among others this includes such books as The Servant of Jehovah, an exposition of Isaiah 53, Types, Psalms and Prophecies, Israel’s Inalienable Possessions, Rays of Messiah’s Glory, and many other works. They still retain their original freshness and beauty, and the name David Baron continues to be remembered with deep appreciation and gratitude for the great heritage of Biblical learning and insight which he left behind. The Visions and Prophecies of Zechariah may be obtained from The Friends of Israel headquarters.
