The Acts 1:6 Controversy

Was John Calvin right when he criticized Jesus’ Jewish disciples for expecting a literal Kingdom on Earth? The book of Acts opens after the disciples had been learning about the Kingdom of God for 40 days from the King Himself, the resurrected Lord Jesus. Immediately before He ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father, Jesus led the men to the top of the Mount of Olives in Jerus

  1. Thank you Chris, loved how you answered the question. God will restore Israel Kingdom. All of scripture point to it. Otherwise there would be no need to bring the nation back together in 1948.

  2. Yes, the disciples asked the right question. The answer can be found in Revelation 19, which had not been written at the time. Now it has been recorded. It is written, “… and he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood; and his name is called The Word of God and the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean …”

  3. The “kingdom/king” was demanded by Israel in opposition God at that time. “the kingdom of God”, has never appeared on earth as it will be, on the earth from the vantage point and implementation of Jesus and God the father, at a future time. Ability to “see, Jn 3:3” and “enter, Jn3:7” the kingdom of God are a matter of birth, (born—and the Spirit, Jn 3:5). When Jesus referred to this birth, (born again), Nicodemus asked out of his knowledge of birth, physical and chronological. Jesus was implying neither physical nor chronological. I believe “anothen” is better translated (above), in this instance. I believe Jesus was implying, where this birth occurs and from which it comes; above, not womb or a second time. Who, not according to, (bloods or the will of man or the will of a husband but of God were born. Jn 1:13)

    Galatians 3:27-29 (KJV)
27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.
29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
    Thank you, Ron Blades

  4. I am now reading in the book of Amos, and was happy to read Amos’ prophecy. I am only in Chapter 5 and will look forward to reading Chapter 9:11. Come Lord Jesus.
